Joyce, Ohio Colleagues Introduce Bill to Designate Kol Israel Holocaust Memorial as A National Memorial

Today, Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) introduced a bill to designate the Kol Israel Holocaust Memorial as a national memorial alongside his fellow Ohioans Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11), Troy Balderson (OH-12), Joyce Beatty (OH-03), Anthony Gonzalez (OH-16), Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Mike Carey (OH-15), and Tim Ryan (OH-13). Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced companion legislation in the Senate. The Kol Israel Holocaust Memorial, which was built in 1961 by survivors of the Holocaust living in Northeast Ohio, is one of the oldest Holocaust memorials in the U.S.

"I'm proud to join my colleagues in introducing this important bipartisan legislation to designate the Kol Israel Holocaust Memorial as a National Memorial," said Joyce. "By honoring the memory of the Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Holocaust, we help the next generation continue our critical efforts to prevent anti-Semitism from taking root in our society and follow through on the promise of Never Again."

Last Congress, Joyce cosponsored and voted for H.R. 943, the Never Again Education Act, a bill to give teachers across the United States the resources and training they need to teach America's children the important lessons of the Holocaust and the consequences of intolerance and hate. As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Joyce has repeatedly supported funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which provides at-risk organizations with funding for security enhancements. This funding can help houses of worship, such as synagogues, save lives when dealing with threats to public safety.

Most recently, Joyce co-led the introduction of H.R. 6940, the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, which aims to combat the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, an international campaign that encourages the boycotting of companies and organizations that do business with the Jewish State of Israel.
