After the Capitol Police Board issued an emergency declaration on Sunday and as a convoy of truckers reached the National Capital Region, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today requested a briefing from U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger on the latest information on any security threats to the Capitol and any preparations being made.

"Chief Manger was extremely helpful when he briefed me on security threats and preparations ahead of the State of the Union address," Norton said. "As a convoy of truckers has reached the National Capital Region, another briefing would ensure that I am apprised of the latest information and can assist in minimizing disruptions to the commutes, safety and security of District of Columbia residents."

Norton has been outspoken against the installation of permanent fencing at the Capitol Complex, and introduced the No Fencing at the United States Capitol Complex Act, which would prohibit the installation of permanent fencing at the Capitol complex, in February 2021.
