Stabenow, Peters Announce Over $21.3 Million in Federal Funding for Upgrades to Great Lakes Central Railroad in Southeast Michigan

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) today announced the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will receive $21,340,300 million in federal funding to rehabilitate railroad tracks and bridges and install new tracks along the Great Lakes Central Railroad. The improvements will eliminate unnecessary slow orders to improve efficiency as well as safety by reducing defects, derailments, and service interruptions along a critical 45-mile stretch just north of Ann Arbor. This federal grant comes from the Department of Transportation's Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Grant Program and are a direct result of the Fiscal Year 2021 government funding bill passed into law by Stabenow and Peters.

"Michigan consumers and businesses rely on rail transportation to get products to and from market," said Senator Stabenow. "These investments will support a faster, more reliable freight rail system and strengthen our supply chain network."
