Today, U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) a $4,870,000 grant under its Buses and Bus Facilities Program. The program makes federal resources available to direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment, as well as to make innovations to modify low or no emission vehicles and facilities. This specific grant funding will be used to purchase three new hydrogen powered buses and standalone solar lighting for 250 bus stops, making public transportation in southern Nevada both cleaner and safer.

"I'm so proud to have secured this grant that will mean even more buses running on clean energy here in southern Nevada. Not only that, but with new solar lighting at bus stops across the valley, riders will feel safer taking public transportation," said Rep. Lee. "This is the exact kind of investment we need to create more sustainable and efficient public transportation for Nevadans, and I look forward to working with the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada as we continue building cleaner transportation infrastructure in our state."

"We are thrilled about this additional funding from the Federal Transit Administration that will be integral in helping us implement our Zero Emissions Plan," said RTC CEO MJ Maynard. "We are extremely appreciative of our federal delegation whose support and leadership has been critical to advancing our safety and sustainability initiatives. This additional funding will allow us to continue to incorporate new and innovative technologies that will help address transportation equity, increase mobility, and yield numerous benefits for Southern Nevadans."
