In recognition of the 71st National Prayer Day, Congressman Doug Lamborn, co-chair for the House Values Action Team (VAT) Caucus, released the following statement:

"As our nation faces many unprecedented challenges, millions of Americans will join together and turn to God as one voice to ask for guidance and protection, healing, peace, and prosperity.

"Today's National Day of Prayer allows our nation and its diverse communities to stand still, reflect, and be mindful of our spiritual obligations as believers.

"As a lawmaker and a person of faith, I understand the redeeming power of prayer. It is through this process I remember my spiritual obligations.

"Join me in praying for wisdom and humility for our nation's leaders, the protection of the unborn, the border security crisis and fentanyl epidemic we are facing, and the preservation of our God-given liberties that this country was founded upon."

Congressman Lamborn is a member of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, dedicated to praying for our nation and formally acknowledging the important role of prayer in American life and history. The caucus also works to guard the right of individuals in America to pray.

Reverend Billy Graham stood on the capitol steps in February 1952 and called for Congress and the president to establish a day of prayer. By April of that year, President Truman signed the legislation into law.

The National Day of Prayer Task Force is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
