Bishop Votes Against America Last Spending Package

Press Release

Date: May 10, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. Dan Bishop (NC-09) voted against the Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, a $40 billion war spending bill that continues the endless cycle of footing the bill for European war efforts while putting Americans last:

"American mothers can't find baby formula, gas prices hit a new record high today, inflation is skyrocketing, and the border remains a sieve. Yet, Congress is rushing to provide nearly $40 billion to protect Ukraine's border, all while refusing to give $5 billion to secure our own border."

"It is admirable to want to help Ukraine, and I support efforts to end Russia's unprovoked attack and assist our Ukrainian allies, but we will have spent nearly $50 billion, far more than any other European ally to assist Ukraine, all while American citizens are suffering to feed their families and fill their gas tanks. Our European allies must step up to help Ukraine. I will not vote to continue inflating our economy and supporting foreign wars, while our mothers struggle to feed their children." -- Rep. Dan Bishop

The Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act is the latest example of another rushed aid package that Speaker Pelosi and Joe Biden expect Congress to rubber stamp with only hours to read and analyze the bill. This is reckless and irresponsible. Our southern border is in chaos and inflation continues to wreck our economy. We have to start addressing problems here at home by putting America first, not last.
