Murphy Bill to Streamline Veteran Benefits Passes House!

Press Release

Date: May 18, 2022
Location: Washington, D.C.

Last night, Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D.'s (NC-03) bipartisan bill, HR 6458, passed the House as a provision of the Veterans Eligibility to Transfer School (VETS) Credit Act. Rep. Murphy's bipartisan legislation eliminates red tape for military families by making it easier for dependents to retain transferred Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits.

"Our Eastern North Carolina veterans earned their benefits with honorable military service to our country" said Rep. Murphy. "Unfortunately, under existing law, education benefits for military dependents can be revoked over the slightest mistake in paperwork. Eligible dependents should never lose out on their benefits because of bureaucratic technicalities. Our commonsense, bipartisan bill will clarify existing law and ensure that clerical errors do not prevent dependents from receiving well-earned educational assistance. As the proud representative of over 89,000 veterans, I look forward to seeing how my legislation will help our outstanding military families obtain the benefits they deserve."
