Congressman Thompson Gives Brief Description of Community Projects for the Mississippi Delta

Congressman Bennie G. Thompson will host a press conference after voting for $10,527,500 in Community Project Funding for the 2nd Congressional District.Congressman Thompson will present five checks to the community projects. The funding will benefit Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District residents. Below you will find a description of each community project.

Central Mississippi, Inc. (MS Delta Disaster Relief Shelter)

This project proposes a homeless/disaster relief shelter in the 2nd Congressional District of Mississippi for a seven-county area. Due to the many natural disasters that have occurred in the Mississippi Delta over the past couple of years, it is necessary for the area to have available a secure space for a disaster relief shelter.

Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation

The Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation plans to construct a 10,000 sq. ft. headquarters facility in Ruleville, MS. This facility will stand as a memorial to honor Fannie Lou Hamer and civil rights activism that will be a tourist attraction.

I.T. Montgomery House Restoration


I.T. Montgomery House Restoration will revitalize the area, increase tourism, and provide economic growth. This project will also assist in the educational and historical value to the community by enriching the town's history of being the first black community founded by former slaves in the nation.

Cary Christian Center Facility

Cary Christian Center Facility will provide community-based programs that will improve the quality of life by decreasing poverty, improving academic, behavioral, and health outcomes, eliminating food insecurity, increasing employment and employability, and decreasing infant mortality.

Bolivar County Community Facility (Town of Rosedale)


Bolivar County Community Facility will provide a multi-functional space; These spaces will contribute to community growth and appeal to community members, allowing them to act as incubators for new ideas, artists, academics, and social entrepreneurs.
