Today, U.S. Congresswoman and Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Joyce Beatty (OH-03) announced a $172,384,124 investment from the federal Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) to lower energy costs and increase energy efficiency for hardworking Ohio families. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Congresswoman Beatty played a critical role in passing, expanded WAP to ensure working families can have their homes retrofitted to make them healthier and more energy efficient, while lowering utility bills.

"I am pleased to announce the WAP investment in Ohio. The expanded funding for WAP in the bipartisan infrastructure bill was one of the many reasons the Congressional Black Caucus and I advocated tirelessly to pass the landmark bill," said Beatty. "This new retrofitting program will lower utility costs, create good-paying jobs, and expand clean energy options for hardworking Ohioans. With over $172 million heading back to Ohio families, we are ready to bring our state into the 21st century and beyond."

The new retrofitting process for low-income homes includes updating insulation, updating heating and cooling systems, upgrading appliances, and other measures to help homes stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer using less energy.

"Home energy retrofits and upgrades -- like electrification, heat pumps, LED lighting, insulation, and sealing up leaks -- can slash monthly energy bills for families and improve the air we breathe," said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. "Thanks to the transformative investments in President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we will be able to help households in disadvantaged communities, reduce carbon emissions, and generate good-paying local jobs in every corner of America."
