Dingell Statement on Biden Administration Ban on Russian Oil, Natural Gas, and Coal

Statement

Date: March 8, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12) today released the following statement after President Joe Biden announced a ban on imports of oil, natural gas, and coal from Russia. Yesterday, Dingell cosponsored the Ban Russian Energy Imports Act to prohibit the importation of Russian crude oil, petroleum, petroleum products, LNG, and coal into the United States.

"President Putin launched an unnecessary, unprovoked war that has killed civilians and children, and caused a humanitarian crisis reaching far beyond Ukraine's border. He must be held accountable for his actions and banning the imports of Russian oil and natural gas is another critical step in those efforts. Times like this underscore the importance of ramping-up investments and domestic manufacturing of clean energy to reduce carbon emissions and our dependence on foreign energy sources, all the while creating good-paying American jobs and reducing energy costs for families. We will continue to stand united in Congress and with our allies around the world to show our support for the Ukrainian people and reject Putin's war of choice."
