Congressman Schweikert Sends Letter to Ambassador Tai Urging for Enforcement of USMCA Commitments

Statement

Date: March 29, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

Today, Representative David Schweikert (AZ-06) issued the following statement after sending a letter to Ambassador Katherine Tai, the United States Trade Representative, urging her to enforce compliance of all commitments within the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA).

"The landmark United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement has reshaped and modernized our trading partnerships in North America," said Rep. Schweikert. "The benefits of this free and fair trade agreement have been tremendous for Arizona, but we must ensure all parties hold up their end of the bargain. The Mexican government is failing to comply with its commitments under USMCA with troubling so-called reforms to its electricity law and its hydrocarbons law, and I am deeply concerned about the impact on market access for American businesses this will have moving forward. The United States must hold Mexico accountable for all its USMCA commitments, and I strongly urge Ambassador Tai to make this issue a top priority."
