Congressman Biggs Announces Congressional App Challenge Winner

Today, Congressman Andy Biggs announced the winner of the Congressional App Challenge. The app was developed by Prisha Shroff, a student from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona.

Wildfire Prevention System is an artificial intelligence based app designed to prevent wildfires by preprocessing satellite and meteorological data and identifying hot spots.

"I am impressed with young coders and developers, like Prisha Shroff, who are embracing a world of rapidly-developing technology and using their skills to better our communities. Prisha's innovation will address a preventable environmental issue that affects communities across America," said Congressman Andy Biggs. "Prisha's creativity and passion are an example to youth, and all of us, in Arizona and our nation."

Wildfire Prevention System will be displayed in the United States Capitol Building and featured on the House of Representatives' website, House.gov. Prisha has also earned an invitation to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington, D.C.

Background:

The Congressional App Challenge is an initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the most prestigious prize in student computer science. Members of Congress can host district-wide contests for students in middle school and high school.

The Challenge accepts computer programs (or apps) written in any programming language, for any platform (desktop/PC, web, mobile, raspberry Pi, etc). To learn more about the competition, click here.
