Hagerty Statement on Reported Plan for a Phased Reopening of the U.S. Capitol

Location: Nashville, TN

United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), a member of the Senate Rules Committee, today released the following statement on the reported plan for a phased re-opening of the U.S. Capitol building:

"If today's report is true, I'm pleased to see congressional leadership responding to the resolution I put forward, but this supposed plan to reopen the Capitol Building is more of a stall than a solution. Labor Day for a full reopening of the Capitol Complex? As I noted last week in a letter to Leader Schumer, if there are staffing limitations, then operational modifications under a staged reopening schedule may be appropriate. But providing a noncommittal reopening date nearly six months out is neither consistent with the recently adopted Senate resolution nor what the American people deserve from their elected representatives."
