Congresswoman Julia Letlow (LA-05) today released a statement on the study requested by her office from the Agricultural and Food Policy Center at Texas A&M University to analyze the impact of rapidly rising input prices on American farmers.

"As I've traveled across the Fifth District in the past few months, I've heard from so many farmers who have been impacted by the high prices of fertilizer and other products necessary to produce their crops. That's why I requested that the Agricultural and Food Policy Center at Texas A&M University to conduct a study to determine the impacts of input price increases on the Fifth District and similar rural areas across our state and our region," Letlow said.

"The report, authored by Dr. Joe Outlaw, found that there will be a significant impact on the costs of input both whole-farm and per-acre varying by commodity. Ultimately, these increased prices will be a significant burden for our farmers, and they will have to pass those expenses on to consumers," Letlow continued.

"As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I asked AFPC for their thoughts on what steps Congress and the Administration could take to alleviate these challenges," Letlow concluded.

Letlow is eager to work with her colleagues in finding solutions that will provide the necessary assistance to farmers across Louisiana's Fifth District and the nation.
