Johnson Supports "Protecting Parental Rights Act"

Statement

Date: Feb. 11, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) signed on as an original cosponsor of Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler's (R-WA-03) Protecting Parental Rights Act.

This legislation seeks to halt anti-parental rights legislation that has emerged in states like California that would allow children 12 years of age and older to obtain the vaccine without approval from a parent. Additionally, in multiple states across the U.S., (list HERE) minors can in certain cases receive the COVID-19 vaccine without approval or consent from a parent or guardian.

"I believe in the COVID-19 vaccine, but I also believe in parental rights," said Johnson. "Parents should be involved in the medical decisions of their children -- no doctor or state elected official should take that responsibility away from the family unit. Children have been left behind throughout this pandemic, and it needs to stop."
