Bishop, Mast, Introduce Legislation to End CDC's Mask Mandates for Public Transportation

Date: Feb. 18, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Reps. Dan Bishop (NC-09) and Brian Mast (FL-18) introduced legislation, previously introduced in the Senate by Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), to end the CDC's mask mandate for public transportation:

"The CDC's mask mandate for public transportation was never based on science and it's time for the CDC to stop pretending otherwise. Democrat politicians and celebrities can enjoy the Super Bowl maskless in a crowded stadium, but the rest of America has to mask up. It's nonsense and Americans are done with being harassed about wearing masks on planes and buses. I'm proud to join Senator Rand Paul in this fight for basic freedoms." -- Rep. Dan Bishop

"For two years, Democrats have been telling us to 'follow the science,' but it's clear now it's not about the science, it's about control. If Stacey Abrams, Rashida Talib and Gavin Newsom don't have to wear masks, why is the rest of America forced to on their morning commutes?" -- Rep. Brian Mast

"Since the early days of the pandemic, mask mandates have been contentious, inconsistent, and unjustifiable. In this vein, the Federal Government's public transportation mask mandate flies in the face of science as time has shown these mandates have had little impact on preventing the spread of COVID-19. Thankfully, Reps. Bishop and Mast are taking action to reverse this mandate and allow individuals to choose for themselves." -- Garrett Bess, Vice President of Heritage Action

This Joint Resolution under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) disapproves of the rule submitted by the CDC to require masks for public transportation and was introduced in the Senate last week by Senator Rand Paul. Right now, the CDC mandate requires anyone using public transportation, such as planes and metros, to wear a mask. This also applies to school buses, even as many school districts across the country are ending their school mask mandates. There is no science backing the CDC's mask mandates and every American should be able to travel without having to wear a mask.
