Jenniffer Gonzalez Announces $146.5 Million in New Federal Appropriations to Advance the Reconstruction of the Island Game

Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón announced today new funds for municipalities, the University of Puerto Rico, religious institutions and other organizations and state agencies granted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). English) and that add up to $146,567,102.43 for reconstruction projects for structures affected by the ravages of Hurricane Maria.

"In recent days we have received notifications that FEMA continues to approve funds for the reconstruction of structures on the Island. I am pleased that the reconstruction projects continue to advance and that the federal entity does its part, because that translates into economic development and that we continue promoting a more resilient Puerto Rico," said the resident commissioner.

FEMA obligates the financing of these projects directly to the Government of Puerto Rico, who are responsible for ensuring that eligible subrecipients receive these funds; and after receiving proper documentation, hold funds to subrecipients on a reimbursable basis.

For repairs to highways, roads and bridges, the Municipality of Añasco was awarded a total of $15,749,389.44 and $1,594,413.53 for the Barrio Corcovada sports complex. In total, the municipality will receive $17,343,802.97 in federal funds.

In turn, Barranquitas will have a total of $5,620,890.86 to work on PR-770, PR-152 on the way to the Landfill, PR-7720 and the Pozo La Tiza Road in the Palo Hincado neighborhood. Meanwhile, Morovis will receive $1,246,045.48 for rural lanes and roads.

For its part, the Municipality of Guaynabo would receive $7,971,107.83 for the Luis A. Ferré complex. The Municipality of Humacao would also be granted $1,870,046.06 for community centers and recreation facilities.

Yabucoa would receive $1,457,641.16 for mitigation of the ravages of María in the municipality, Cayey $1,348,214.05 for debris removal, Juana Díaz $2,596,061.96 for repairs in the Cambodia tourist area and $1,214,533.68 for work on recreational facilities in the Tijeras neighborhood, San Juan $3,388,784.34 for repairs to the Women Development Wellness Center and San Lorenzo $1,020,542.03 for road repairs in the Espino and Cayaguas neighborhoods.

Funds for state agencies

As state agencies, the Public Housing Administration will receive $29,752,952.41 for improvements to the following developments; $6,003,304.19 for La Meseta, $5,026,580.64, for Zenon Diaz Valcarcel in Guaynabo, $3,809,915.13 for José Tormos Diego in Ponce, $3,580,317.20 for Dr. Manuel de La Pila Iglesias in Ponce, $3,388,784.34 for La Ceiba in the Municipality of Ceiba, for I Yuù enquiù $286.37 for Loíza, $2,131,612.39 for Ernesto Ramos Antonini in San Juan, $1,967,162.26 for Santa Elena in San Juan, $1,208,037.32 for Alturas de Vega Baja in Vega Baja.

These funds allocated for repairs to public housing buildings are in addition to the $554 million that the commissioner recently announced together with FEMA and Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi, for work that will impact over 200 public housing projects.

For its part, the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation will receive $18,852,247.27 for repairs to its complexes and mitigation; $2,893,406.93 for the Department to compensate for expenses incurred immediately after the disaster, $11,340,197.36 for the correctional facility in Guayama, $2,168,341.82 for Guerrero in Aguadilla, $1,199,131.55 for the Zarzal correctional facility in Rio Grande and $1,251,169.61 for the spoons in Ponce.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works receives $1,211,867.64 for improvements to PR-352, which provides access to rural communities in Mayagüez.

Also the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources of the Port will receive $2,702,968.97; $1,462,797. 89 for the pier at Playa Pajaros on Isla de Mona and $1,240,171.08 for the recreational facilities at Isla de Cabras.

The Department of Health was awarded $4,700,862.52, of which $3,071,220.71 are for the Pediatric Rehabilitation Center in Ponce and $1,629,641.81 for the department's regional office in Arecibo and the Public Buildings Authority $1,180,962.02 for the Police Headquarters and the Utuado Government Center .

Other funds

Other entities and non-profit organizations in Puerto Rico that will also receive funds under FEMA are; Disciples of Christ Catholic Church $2,569,306.46, New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Inc $2,237,896.70, South Western Education Society $1,998,178.29 and for Centro Cristiano Casa de Covenant Inc./Covenant Private School $1,975,030.28.

In turn, the Dominican Fathers of Puerto Rico received $4,625,313.42 to improve its educational facilities in Yabucoa, the Church of God Pentecostal International Movement was approved $1,394,924.08 for work on its churches in the municipality of Bayamón, the Diosesis of Caguas receives $1,863,730.76 to repair the Los Tres Santos Reyes Parish in Aguas Buenas and the Fuente de Agua Viva Christian Mission Council $1,460,780.06 for its premises in Cayey.

The Roosevelt Roads Redevelopment Project received $8,245,291.19, of which $2,541,100.06 was earmarked for recreational facilities.

The University of Puerto Rico will receive a total of $17,889,417.21 for projects in three of its campuses; Río Piedras receives $13,245,160.05, of which $4,644,432.63 will be for repairs to the Federico Trilla Hospital, located within the campus, Aguadilla receives $3,210,642.57 and the Utuado campus $1,433,614.59.
