Resident Commissioner Expresses Herself Before Federal Cases for Acts of Corruption

Statement

Date: Dec. 2, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

"Public service has to be synonymous with honesty, whoever uses it to benefit personally has to be repudiated.

There is no room for people who come to serve themselves, instead of serving our people, the people we ask for the trust to represent them. These acts of corruption stain Puerto Rico at the level of Washington, just when we have achieved the flow of trillions of dollars for the reconstruction of the islands.

It is disgusting and embarrassing for me to see these corruption schemes and how their fabric endangers federal funds and the public trust! This has to stop. It is undignified and shameful that during past administrations there have been acts of government corruption and today public officials continue to commit them; it seems that some do not want to learn from the mistakes of the past. For me, these cases are intolerable and those who are pointed out must resign from their posts to allow the people to have an honest service free of accusations.

I thank the federal authorities for continuing to go after those who fail the trust of our people and the oath they take upon assuming their positions. I tell those who continue to think that they will be able to commit these acts with impunity, that the truth will always come out."
