Sen. Cramer Statement Ahead of Supreme Court Oral Arguments on Mississippi Late-Term Abortion Case

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement ahead of Supreme Court oral arguments on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization:

"The right to life is one of our most fundamental rights. The Declaration of Independence codifies this truth as self-evident: "all men are created equal; that they are endowed [at the time of creation] by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.' While the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on this case, it's crucial to remember each and every life is precious and sacred. Plain and simple, Mississippi's law is grounded in the science of fetal development and maternal health, safeguarding the lives and health of both the born and unborn."

In July, Senator Cramer joined Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), and over 200 members of Congress in filing an amicus brief supporting the State of Mississippi in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold Mississippi's law protecting life.

In the 117th Congress, Senator Cramer has co-sponsored a number of pro-life bills including legislation to ban abortion after 20 weeks of fertilization, protect unborn babies with Down syndrome, and give states the authority to exclude abortion providers like Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funds. He has also pledged to vote against any bill that would undermine the Hyde Amendment, which is a legislative provision barring the use of federal funds to pay for abortion or any other abortion-related activities.
