Chair DeLauro Statement on the Build Back Better Act

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on the negotiations to pass the Build Back Better Act:

"After years of government working for the biggest corporations, passing the Build Back Better Act would finally help working families. Senator Manchin opposing it is a slap in their face.

"While families are living paycheck to paycheck, Senator Manchin's actions would mean big corporations not paying their fair share, coal companies endangering the climate, and millions of children in poverty.

"Failure to pass this transformational package hurts the more than 346,000 children in West Virginia benefiting from the Child Tax Credit, goes against the more than 70 percent of West Virginia voters who support paid family and medical leave for all workers, and betrays working and middle class families calling for the federal government to reduce the costs of child care, health care, prescription drugs.

"Build Back Better is an economic boost, it would have no impact on inflation in the short run and reduce inflation over time, and will put money in people's pockets when they need it the most. And Build Back Better is fully paid for and reduces the deficit in the long run.

"The fight to pass Build Back Better is not over, and I will continue to stand with President Biden and my Congressional colleagues urging Senator Manchin to honor his commitments and enact this legislation."
