Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee Heath Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and E&C Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Medicare Part B premiums paid by beneficiaries will increase next year, one of the largest increases in the program's history.

"President Biden's inflationary agenda and the Democrats' deliberate choice to ignore the Medicare program's looming insolvency have contributed to one of the largest Medicare Part B premium increases in the program's history -- a 14.5 percent jump.

"The Democrats' tax and spending spree creates an expensive new and duplicative Medicare benefit while simultaneously cutting Medicare to pay for Obamacare and other new spending. This is the height of fiscal irresponsibility and represents an outrageous shirking of responsibility to protect and strengthen the Medicare program for generations to come. The Biden Administration is already trying to spin this as an opportunity to force Speaker Pelosi's drug price controls that will destroy innovation and lead to fewer cures. Seniors and future generations deserve better than this political opportunism that threatens their futures. We owe it to the American people to work together and strengthen Medicare instead of letting a socialist agenda drive up costs and hurt people's standard of living."
