DAVIDS STATEMENT ON PRESCRIPTION DRUG PRICE DEAL ALLOWING MEDICARE TO NEGOTIATE LOWER PRICES

Statement

Date: Nov. 2, 2021
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Drugs

Representative Sharice Davids released the following statement after the announcement that a historic plan to lower prescription drug prices will be included in the Build Back Better Act:

"I am thrilled to see that our calls to lower prescription drug costs and allow Medicare to negotiate for lower prices have been answered. This is a victory for seniors, families, and anyone who has experienced sticker shock at the pharmacy counter. Seniors will see lower costs from the first-ever Medicare out-of-pocket for prescriptions - a major priority - along with a $35 monthly out-of-pocket maximum for insulin. Meanwhile, we are saving the government billions that we can then reinvest in other crucial health care programs. With this compromise plan, we are finally making progress on standing up to pharma and standing up for our communities."
