Gov. Gianforte Encourages Giving Blood to Mark Fifth Day of Giving

Press Release

Date: Dec. 7, 2021
Location: Helena, MT

To mark the fifth day of 12 Days of Giving, Governor Greg Gianforte today released a video of leaders from the Department of Public Health and Human Services and Billings Clinic promoting blood donation through the American Red Cross of Montana.

"Given the historic low blood supply across the country, there's never been a more important time to consider becoming a blood donor," Gov. Gianforte said. "Giving blood is quick, easy, and helps make a life-saving difference for those in need. That's why, if you're able, we're encouraging Montanans to give blood or volunteer as a donor ambassador this holiday season."

Joining the governor in encouraging Montanans to give blood were DPHHS Director Adam Meier, acting State Medical Officer Maggie Cook-Shimanek, MD, and Billings Clinic interim chief medical officer Michelle Pierson, MD.

The American Red Cross of Montana frequently hosts blood drives daily across the state. Until December 16, Montanans who donate blood will be eligible to receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card.

To find a local blood drive or to become a donor ambassador with the American Red Cross of Montana, Montanans can visit RedCrossBlood.org.

Running through mid-December, the governor's 12 Days of Giving will highlight the work of a dozen organizations serving Montanans in need.

On the 1st Day of Giving, the governor established a One Warm Coat drive at the State Capitol to help ensure no Montanan goes cold this winter.
On the 2nd Day of Giving, the governor launched a canned food drive competition among state agencies and encouraged Montanans to consider giving to the Montana Food Bank Network or their local food bank.
On the 3rd Day of Giving, the governor visited the Great Falls Rescue Mission to help encourage guests and promote the work of the organization to serve Montanans struggling with homelessness and hunger.
On the 4th Day of Giving, the governor, lieutenant governor, and members of the cabinet donated toys to the Helena area Toys for Tots.
On the 5th Day of Giving, public health leaders and the governor encouraged Montanans to help address the nationwide blood shortage and become a blood donor through the American Red Cross of Montana.
