BROWN ANNOUNCES $250,000 FOR FAIR HOUSING ASSISTANCE IN NORTHEAST OHIO

Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) -- Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs -- announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded two grants, totaling $250,000, to fair housing organizations in Cleveland and Painesville for fair housing enforcement and outreach. These funds are made possible through the American Rescue Plan, which Brown helped write and pass.

"More than 50 years after Congress passed the Fair Housing Act, access to housing remains unequal," said Brown. "These funds will help support the Fair Housing Resource Center and the Housing Research & Advocacy Center's work to protect Ohioans from housing discrimination and to help victims of discrimination seek justice."

Organizations receiving funds are:

$125,000 to Fair Housing Resource Center in Painesville to conduct fair housing enforcement in Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties and create a Fair Housing Computer lab staffed with a housing case manager to assist individuals with their housing search.
$125,000 to the Housing Research & Advocacy Center in Cleveland to assist potential victims of housing discrimination, create a new brochure on eviction and fair housing, and target fair housing outreach to predominantly Asian American communities.
The Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) funds fair housing organizations and other nonprofits that assist individuals who believe that they have been victims of housing discrimination.
