Rosen, Fischer Re-Introduce Bipartisan Veterans Assistance Helpline Act

Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Deb Fischer (R-NE) announced their re-introduction of the Veterans Assistance Helpline Act, bipartisan legislation that would permanently establish a helpline for veterans to use in order to quickly obtain information and assistance with all services from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill would also work toward deploying a simple, easy-to-remember dialing code for veterans to use to immediately connect them to all of the VA's resources.
"Veterans in Nevada and across the country have served our nation proudly, and they deserve easier access to help and resources from the VA," said Senator Rosen. "Our bipartisan plan would permanently establish a VA helpline and lay the groundwork for an easy-to-remember three-digit phone number for veterans to access to all of the critical benefits and services that the VA provides. With this Veterans Assistance Helpline, we can expedite and streamline access to support for our nation's heroes as they navigate the transition to civilian life."

The bipartisan Veterans Assistance Helpline Act would direct the VA to permanently establish a toll-free telephone helpline--a one-stop-shop--for veterans to obtain information about the benefits and services provided by the VA, to include services available to them locally. The bill would also direct the VA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), to conduct a study to assess the feasibility of designating a shorter dialing code for veterans to access the toll-free helpline. Senators Rosen and Fischer introduced similar legislation last Congress.
