"LIVE: I'm speaking on the Senate floor in recognition of #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth. As a voice for Washington state's Tribes in the Senate, I will always fight to ensure the federal government lives up to its sacred commitment to Indigenous peoples.

Washington state has 29 federally-recognized Tribes. And in my state, we understand the importance of the sovereignty of Tribal governments.

And we know our commitment to them must be more than just words--it has to be action.

When we passed the American Rescue Plan to get America up and running again earlier this year, it was the single largest federal investment in Tribes ever. I've spoken to so many Tribal leaders in Washington state about what this relief has meant.

But there's more work to be done. We must continue to address the epidemic of missing or murdered Indigenous women, ensure Native peoples are represented in our government and judicial systems, and so much more. I'll keep pushing ahead on this important work."
