Congressman Blake Moore's Statement on Section 529 of the National Defense Authorization Act

oday, Congressman Blake Moore issued the following statement on Section 529 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022.

"I share the concerns of many over the inclusion of the majority's overreaching provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022.

As background, the NDAA passed by the House last year included a Democrat-sponsored provision to permit military judges to issue ex parte gun confiscation orders, not only violating Second Amendment rights for our men and women in uniform, but also depriving them of due process. In a win for service members, this harmful language was removed by the conference committee as the bill moved through the legislative process. This year, the Democrats again attempted to use the NDAA to push gun control by reinserting this language in Section 529.

I was proud to join 160 colleagues demanding Section 529's removal, and I trust HASC Ranking Member Rogers' commitment to again strip this language from the NDAA in conference with the Senate. House Armed Services Republicans were successful in removing this language from last year's bill, and I have full confidence we will remove it again this year.

The Armed Services Committee has passed the NDAA every year for nearly six decades. Provisions like Section 529 stand in the way of HASC remaining the most bipartisan committee in Congress and simply have no place in the NDAA. My team and I will share updates on our progress as the bill nears final passage later this year."
