Congressman Pappas Statement Ahead of 20th Anniversary of 9/11

Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement ahead of the 20th anniversary of September 11th:

"This year marks the 20th anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11 - when the blue skies of a September morning in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania were marred with smoke and fire, and our nation and world were changed forever. Each year on this day, we reaffirm our commitment to remembering the lives and legacies of those taken far too soon by an act of senseless violence, and the courage and commitment of the firefighters, police officers, and first responders who were first on the scene. While it has been two decades since that day, the memory of those we lost in the Twin Towers, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville will never be forgotten.

This year, we mark this day following the conclusion of America's military mission in Afghanistan, bringing to an end this nation's longest war. We also mourn the loss of thirteen service members who lost their lives in Kabul while aiding in the largest airlift in American history. Their service and their legacy, and that of all American service members and veterans who served in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the War on Terror, must not be forgotten. They did everything we asked of them and more for two decades, and we owe them a profound debt of gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

The men and women who volunteered to serve - both those who witnessed the horror of 9/11 and those who were not even alive when the Twin Towers fell - represent the best that this nation has to offer. It now falls on us to live lives worthy of their service and sacrifice and to ensure they receive the care, support, and respect that they have earned."
