Rep. Frankel Calls for Department of Education to Help Florida's Children, Fund School Districts Directly

Statement

Date: Sept. 1, 2021
Location: West Palm Beach, FL
Issues: K-12 Education

Today, Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-21) released the following statement requesting the Department of Education to send federal funding directly to school districts in order to counter Governor DeSantis' decision to withhold funding from local school districts that have implemented mask mandates.

"Governor DeSantis' efforts to withhold funding from school districts that have put mask requirements in place to protect our children is dangerous and irresponsible. We must ensure that our school districts can make the best decisions to keep our children safe," said Rep. Frankel. "I've been in communication with Miguel Cardona, the U.S. Secretary of Education, on this pressing issue, and I look forward to working with his team to find avenues for direct funding from the federal government to school districts being penalized by governors for taking common sense measures to keep our children healthy this school year."
