Press Release

Date: Aug. 13, 2021
Location: Dallas, TX

Ahead of the Sunday, August 15 open enrollment deadline, Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) released a report on how the American Rescue Plan has reduced health care costs for folks on healthcare.gov plans across the 32nd Congressional District. As a result of the American Rescue Plan, many families and individuals in Allred's district saw their premiums cut and more than 85% of the uninsured folks in the district now have access to health care plans with no premium.

"Since my first day in Congress, I've been doing everything in my power to lower costs and make health care more affordable for North Texans," said Allred. "I'm glad that, because of the American Rescue Plan, North Texans are seeing the cost of their healthcare.gov plans drastically reduced. The average savings is estimated at $3,000 per year, and over 85 percent of uninsured folks in my district have the opportunity to get covered without paying a premium. There is still much more work to be done and I'll continue to do all I can to expand access to care and lower costs."

Earlier this year, Allred voted for the American Rescue Plan Act which expanded eligibility for financial assistance to help pay for coverage through the marketplace on healthcare.gov and lowered premiums for Americans who were already enrolled through the Affordable Care Act exchanges.

North Texans looking to sign up for care or update their existing plan through the Affordable Care Act marketplace before the end of the open enrollment period on August 15th can do so here or by calling 800-318-2596.

Key highlights from the report:

An estimated 37,000 people in the district who currently purchase health insurance on the individual market could benefit from the American Rescue Plan and an average household could save $3,000 a year in health insurance premiums.
In Texas' 32nd Congressional District, there are an estimated 78,000 individuals who do not have health insurance who can now enroll in an ACA plan at no cost, which would cut the uninsured rate in the district by 55%.
A family of four in TX-32 who was not previously eligible for subsidies, with two adults age 50, two children, and a household income of $106,000, could now see their monthly premiums cut by 55%, generating $10,968 in annual savings thanks to the American Rescue Plan.
