Congresswoman Plaskett Offers Prayers and Support for People of Louisiana in Wake of Damage from Hurricane Ida

Statement

Date: Aug. 30, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Plaskett released the following statement regarding the damage left in New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana by Hurricane and Tropical Storm Ida:

"My heart and prayers are with the people of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana as they deal with the effects of now-Tropical Storm Ida. Ida made landfall as one of the most powerful storms to hit the U.S. and is responsible for the death of one person so far, along with a million plus power outages across the entirety of New Orleans, in other parts of the state in some parts of Mississippi. While it is cruelly ironic that Ida made landfall on the same date that Hurricane Katrina hit the states of Louisiana and Mississippi 16 years ago, it is imperative that we do not allow our brothers and sisters in these great states to suffer for months on end the way they did then. I think of the families and communities represented by my former colleague, Congressman Cedric Richmond and my Republican colleague, Garrett Graves.

"I continue to remain prayerful for the search and rescue teams, the first responders, the utility crews as well as the Mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell as they seek to rebuild and put their lives back together after the damage caused by Ida. I and my team are available to support and assist in way we can."
