Congressman Anthony Brown's Statement on Terror Attacks in Afghanistan

Statement

Date: Aug. 26, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), a member of the House Armed Services Committee and 30-year Army veteran, released the following statement today's terror attacks in Afghanistan that killed twelve U.S. servicemembers and wounded fifteen, as well as the deaths of a mounting number of Afghan civilians:

"The deaths of U.S. servicemembers and civilians in Kabul are an immense tragedy, the latest heartbreaking loss in our two-decades long war in Afghanistan. My prayers are with their families, the wounded, our troops in harm's way, our country and the Afghan people.

"Our military is currently undertaking a massive airlift of American citizens, our Afghan partners and refugees. We must complete this mission. It's clear that in the closing days of this conflict, threats to these operations will continue to rise. The United States military must control the situation on the ground around Hamid Karzai International Airport to protect the ongoing evacuation, the lives of our servicemembers and Afghan civilians. We must use every resource available, diplomatic and military, to get U.S. citizens and our Afghan partners out of the country safely, sparing no expense to protect and support our brave servicemembers as they complete this critical mission."
