Rep. Castor: Important for Florida Families to Stay Healthy and Well

Press Release

Date: Aug. 10, 2021
Location: Tampa, FL

Today, Rep. Kathy Castor announced that health care is more affordable than ever for Florida families thanks to the American Rescue Plan's enhanced tax credits -- this will save families an average of $40 per person per month -- that's nearly $2,000 per year for a typical family of four. Castor was joined at Tampa Family Health Center's (TFHC) newest location by TFHC CEO and President Sherry Hoback as well as Jodi Ray, program director for USF's Florida Covering Kids and Family to encourage Tampa residents to get covered before the ACA Special Enrollment Period closes on August 15. USF Navigators remain available to provide free assistance to Floridians looking to find the best plan for them and their families, even virtually at www.coveringflorida.org.

"With nearly 500k Floridians already signed up for health coverage during the ACA special enrollment period, it's clear that our neighbors continue to rely on the affordable, quality coverage provided by the Affordable Care Act. Extensive new tax credits through the American Rescue Plan make health care more attainable for all of our neighbors -- the Congress has worked with President Biden to ensure that access is expanded for even more of our neighbors here in the Tampa Bay area at this critical time.

"In the State of Florida, the average premium right now is about $41/month -- this is a high quality, low-cost option for many, especially those who do not receive coverage through their job. There is help available for those in need of coverage or those looking for a new plan at www.healthcare.gov. If you have questions or need further assistance, our incredible USF Navigators are here to help you every step of the way. This Special Enrollment Period ends on August 15, so take time now to search for a new plan and share with your family and friends. Get covered, Tampa!

"The enhanced tax credits are bettering the lives of Floridians and substantially lowering monthly costs. I'm working with President Biden and my colleagues in Congress to lower costs and make the tax credit for affordable health insurance permanent. The ACA has been a lifeline to so many throughout the pandemic. Americans should be able to rely on the lower premiums that they are receiving through the American Rescue Plan, and I remain committed to keeping costs low for all of my neighbors."
