SST Environment Subcommittee Chair Rep. Sherrill Statement on the IPCC Climate Report

Statement

Washington, DC---- Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Chair of the Environment Subcommittee of the House Science, Space, & Technology Committee, released the following statement in response to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) new report "Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis":

"The report released yesterday makes clear how critical it is to act now on the climate crisis. We need to increase our efforts to drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions and move towards a clean energy economy. We have only just begun to see the devastating effects of climate change. Increased warming will result in more frequent and severe weather events, hazards to human health, and threats to our national security.

"I continue to support President Biden's plan to reduce the cost of energy storage by 90 percent in the next ten years, making room for solar, wind, and other clean energy sources to flourish.

"I was proud to host Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in my district alongside New Jersey ecologically-innovative business leaders to discuss how our state is a leader in moving our nation close to a clean energy economy. As we make this transition, it is critical we support good paying jobs and ensure we remain competitive in this space with China and Europe.

"As Chair of the Environment Subcommittee of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I am committed to working with my colleagues to advance effective legislative solutions to the increasingly daunting reality of the climate crisis and to ensure our nation is doing everything in our power to address it."
