Wexton Votes to Approve Fiscal Year 2022 Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Funding Bill Through Appropriations Committee

Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) voted today to approve the fiscal year 2022 Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies funding bill, which would create jobs, rebuild crumbling infrastructure, expand access to safe affordable housing, and promote safety.

"Our Transportation and Housing appropriations bill makes long-needed investments in our infrastructure, takes robust action to address the affordable housing crisis, and provides for a safe and sustainable transportation future," said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. "I'm proud that this legislation delivers on key priorities for Virginia by providing federal funding for Metro and improving the safety and efficiency of our air traffic control facilities. I'll continue working to rebuild our country's roads, bridges, transit, and housing infrastructure to meet the needs of every Virginian."

For fiscal year 2022, the bill provides funding of $84.1 billion, an increase of $8.7 billion -- more than 11 percent -- above fiscal year 2021. This includes an increase of $6.8 billion for the Department of Housing and Urban Development and $1.9 billion for the Department of Transportation. In total, the bill provides $162.6 billion in budgetary resources, an increase of $25.9 billion above 2021.

In total the fiscal year 2022 bill provides an estimated $157,900,000 for housing infrastructure in Virginia -- up from 25,200,000 in fiscal year 2021.

The legislation:

Delivers full PRIIA funding of $150 million for WMATA for capital expenses;
Funds replacement of aging and unsafe air traffic control facilities and supports the use of remote tower programs to improve safety, efficiency, and expanded services;
Creates tens of thousands of good-paying American jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure with significant investments in airports, highways, transit, passenger rail, and port systems;
Grows opportunity through homeownership and rental assistance, including more than 125,000 new housing vouchers targeted to individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness and over 4,000 new units for seniors and persons with disabilities;
Supports the vulnerable with public housing safety, maintenance and improvement investments, such as the remediation of lead paint and radon and installation of energy and water efficient systems;
Promotes safe transportation and housing with a skilled and growing workforce to conduct inspections, mitigate hazards, and study emerging threats and innovative solutions;
Reduces emissions, increases resiliency, and addresses historical inequities in transportation and housing programs through targeted grants and investments.
