House Passes Congresswoman Ross Amendments to Build the Nation's Clean Transportation and Energy Sectors and Protect Drinking Water

Congresswoman Deborah Ross' (NC-02) three amendments to the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week. The INVEST in America Act will allocate $715 billion to modernize and rebuild America's surface transportation and water infrastructure. Rep. Ross' amendments contribute to the legislation's bold proposals to address the climate crisis by supporting the development of the nation's clean transportation and energy sectors and addressing drinking water quality.

Congresswoman Ross led an amendment that will establish a working group to guide the development and integration of electric vehicles into the U.S. transportation and energy systems. She additionally co-led two amendments: Congresswoman Haley Stevens' (MI-11) amendment that will improve the resilience of transportation infrastructure against the effects of hurricanes, natural disasters, and other extreme weather; and Congressman Chris Pappas' (NH-01) amendment that will set deadlines for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop water quality criteria and place limits on some industrial per-and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) discharges into water.

"We must combat climate change head-on, and that's why I'm thrilled my amendments were included in the INVEST in America Act so we can prioritize renewable energy and our environment as we bring our infrastructure into the 21st century," said Congresswoman Ross. "We have an opportunity to invest in electric vehicle infrastructure and the resilience of our transportation systems against the dire effects of climate change for generations to come.
