Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) applauded the inclusion of $200,000 in funding to expand the Anacostia Watershed Society's "Treating & Teaching" stormwater management and environmental education program in partnership with Prince George's Public Schools. This funding was included as part of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and Environment Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations bill.

Through the Treating & Teaching program, the Anacostia Watershed Society convenes a coalition of local nonprofit organizations and government agencies to connect Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) students and teachers to stormwater management projects being installed on their school campuses and support environmental literacy implementation.

"Giving our kids hands-on learning opportunities is part of a well-rounded, quality education. Projects to help manage and maintain our environment are happening near our schools and in our own backyards," said Congressman Brown. "This funding will not only help manage stormwater in our communities but help expose our students to important outdoor, environmental education that can spark life-long passions and new career paths."

Funding for this project was requested by Rep. Brown through the House Committee on Appropriations' Community Project Funding process. Each Member is limited to no more than 10 Community Project Funding requests. Combined earmarks are capped at 1% of all discretionary spending.
