Rep. Kim Initiatives to Boost STEM Workforce, Support Economy Pass House

Washington, DC --Today, U.S. Rep. Young Kim helped pass out of the House the bipartisan Department of Energy Science for the Future Act and the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the Future Act. Rep. Kim, a member of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, cosponsored both bills and supported their passage out of the committee.

Included in the NSF for the Future Act was Rep. Kim's bipartisan bills, including:

The Innovations in Informal STEM Learning Act (H.R. 3859), which she introduced with Rep. Gwen Moore (WI-04) to create a merit-based grant program to support nonprofit organizations and other groups that expose students to STEM concepts outside of the classroom; and,
The Research Excellence through STEM Inclusion Act (H.R. 3809), which Rep. Kim introduced with Reps. Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) and Ro Khanna (CA-17), to help grow and strengthen our STEM workforce by creating a Chief Diversity Officer at the National Science Foundation.

Both bipartisan efforts passed out of the House today help us reach these important goals," said Kim. "I'm also excited that two bills I've introduced were included in the NSF for the Future Act. STEM education will help create opportunities for all students to succeed, cultivate a skilled workforce, grow our economy and boost U.S. competitiveness. I urge the Senate to swiftly consider these bills to bridge our gap in STEM education, support our economy and promote innovation."
