U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch (MA-08), announced that the Child Tax Credit will begin monthly payments to eligible families starting mid-July, benefiting 110,100 children living in the 8th Congressional District of Massachusetts. The Child Tax Credit is a fully refundable benefit, increased by Congress as part of the American Rescue Plan, and families of nearly 90% of all children across the country can receive these benefits. Eligible families will receive a tax credit of $3,600 for kids under the age of 6 ($300 per month payments) and $3,000 for children between the ages 6-17 ($250 per month payments).

"Expanding and improving the Child Tax Credit is one of the most vital provisions in the American Rescue Plan and will have a tremendous impact on the hard working families in my district," said Rep. Lynch. "This benefit will help over 70% of the children in my district, 6,900 of which are living in impoverished conditions and 1,400 in deep poverty. The Child Tax Credit will cut child poverty in this country in half, grow the middle class, and help those in need pay for groceries, childcare, health care, and basic necessities."

House Appropriations Committee estimates, compiled from analysis by Co-Equal, find that Massachusetts's 8th Congressional District will see the following benefits from the expanded Child Tax Credit:

The families of 70.5% of children will qualify for benefits, totaling 110,100 children
The average benefit for 38,600 households in MA-08 is $2,600
The expanded and improved Child Tax Credit lifts 6,900 children in MA-08 out of poverty, 2,500 of whom are under the age of six
MA-08 families with children in poverty will receive $4,000 on average
1,400 children in MA-08 will be lifted out of deep poverty.
