Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court decision against Texas Republicans' unlawful efforts to gut the Affordable Care Act:

"Today's Supreme Court decision is a victory for all Americans -- including the 49,386 El Paso County residents who are benefitting from access to quality, affordable health care and the transformational protections the Affordable Care Act provides to all.

"For over 11 years, the Affordable Care Act has been a critical lifeline to American families -- ending discrimination against individuals with pre-existing conditions, prohibiting insurers from charging women more than men for the same coverage, lowering costs for prescription drugs for seniors, allowing young adults to stay on their parents' plan until age 26, and more.

"The Affordable Care Act won and is here to stay despite Republicans' constant and irrational efforts to gut it. Now, I will continue to fulfill my promise to ensure health care is a right every El Pasoan can enjoy. Alongside my Congressional colleagues and the Biden administration, I will work to also expand Medicaid coverage to Texas and lower health costs and prescription drug prices for communities everywhere."
