Sens. Cramer, Hoeven Introduce Resolution Commemorating 10th Anniversary of Historic 2011 Minot Flood

Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and John Hoeven (R-ND) this week introduced a resolution commemorating the 10th anniversary of the historic flood in the Minot region, during which water levels reached their crest on June 26, 2011. The resolution outlines the extraordinary conditions that led to the disaster, the scale of its impact, the resilience of the region's residents and the ongoing efforts to build permanent flood protection for the Souris River Valley.

"In 2011, Minot and the surrounding communities faced an unprecedented flood, which displaced 11,000 residents, destroyed more than 4,000 homes and buildings and caused upwards of $1 billion in damages," said the senators. "On the 10th anniversary of this disaster, we reflect on the resiliency of local residents, the dedicated efforts of volunteers as well as public and private leaders to aid in the community's recovery and the significant progress made in securing permanent comprehensive flood protection to protect the entire region from the risk of future flooding."
