Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and Ranking Member of the Surface Transportation, Maritime, Freight, and Ports Subcommittee, released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) announced the City of Lincoln will receive a nearly $2.7 million federal transit grant:

"This significant investment in Lincoln's buses and transit system is going to make a difference for the city's commuters and residents. It will enable updates that will allow them to travel to their destinations safely and efficiently."

More information:

The funding comes from the Low or No Emission (Low-No) Grant Program, which supports transit agencies in purchasing or leasing low- or no-emission buses and other transit vehicles that use advanced technologies such as battery electric and fuel-cell power to provide cleaner, more energy efficient transit service in communities across the country. The City of Lincoln will utilize this grant to improve and update its bus and bus infrastructure system in the city, including through the purchase of electric buses, charging stations, and other important infrastructure.
