U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and the top Republican on the Subcommittee on Transportation, Maritime, Freight, and Ports, released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Commerce announced a $3 million federal grant to the city of Holdrege, Nebraska, to support business development.

"This funding, which was secured by Congress, will bring direct economic relief to Holdrege as the city recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. It will create dozens of good-paying jobs for the community and generate millions of dollars of economic activity."

More information:

The project is funded under the CARES Act, which passed the Senate with Senator Fischer's support last year and provided the Commerce Department's Economic Development Agency (EDA) with funding for economic assistance programs to help impacted communities.

This EDA grant, to be matched with $763,682 in local investment, is expected to create 73 jobs and generate $40 million in private investment. It will be used to construct water, sewer, and street improvements to support business development at the Iron Horse Industrial Park.
