Statement

Date: April 13, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement welcoming Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to Prince George's County as he visits Mary Harris "Mother" Jones Elementary School as part of the "Help is Here" School Reopening Tour:

"A key part of the American Rescue Plan is our investment in safe school reopenings. Prince George's County is pursuing a balanced approach to beginning hybrid, in-classroom instruction, addressing learning gaps and ensuring the safety of students and educators. I welcome Secretary Cardona to our communities.

"As part of the unprecedented investment in our schools, American Rescue Plan funding can be used to reduce class sizes, improve ventilation and provide personal protective equipment for students and educators to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Money can also be used to hire counselors to support students as they transition back to the classroom. The bill also includes targeted funding to close the digital divide and provide summer school or other support for students that will help make up lost learning time.

"Our schools are cornerstones of our communities. Providing them the resources they need, to give students and educators a strong foundation moving forward is essential to our recovery as a nation. Help is here."
