Amata's Statement About Violence In Israel

Washington, D.C. -- Monday, Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata released the following statement:

"In 2019 at the invitation of Chairman Ted Deutsch, I joined a bipartisan congressional delegation to Israel and other areas of the Middle East for briefings on foreign policy and defense. In recent days, we've had sad and deeply concerning news from Israel. According to the Israel Defense Forces, as of this past weekend, over 1,750 rockets have been launched into Israel. Thankfully, many rockets are stopped by Israel's "Iron Dome' defense system but not all. These rockets are weapons of terrorism that land anywhere, killing and hurting civilians and causing destruction wherever they fall. In response, Israel has conducted military operations against numerous Hamas targets, also resulting in the heartbreaking loss of civilian lives including children.

"Many of us as Christians feel special love for the Holy Land of the Bible. Scripture says, "pray for the peace of Jerusalem." Today, we pray for peace to return. We pray for wisdom for the leadership of Israel, along with our leadership in the U.S. and the world's leading democracies, so that Israel can live at peace and in security, and work can go forward to rebuild and improve the lives of everyone there in safety, equality, peace, freedom and prosperity."
