Press Release

Date: May 6, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, May 6th, 2021, Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02) and Greg Murphy (NC-03), both doctors and members of the House Veterans' Affairs and Education & Labor Committees, wrote a letter to Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, demanding more information regarding the American Federation of Teachers' influence on school reopening guidelines:

In the letter, the Members write: "The New York Post recently reported on the outsized influence teachers' unions had over the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) when the agency was developing updated school reopening guidance in February. This report is alarming considering the significant national outcry from parents to follow the well-established science and get schools reopened."The Members continued: "It is imperative the CDC rise above politics and focus on the science, including studying virus transmission and the academic well-being and mental and physical health of students. Failing to put students first is a breach of responsibility."
