Congresswoman Nikema Williams Calls on Governor Kemp to Address Gun Safety

Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) sent a letter to Governor Brian Kemp demanding state-level action to protect Georgians from gun violence. The letter addressed heightened gun safety concerns since the March 16 shootings that took the lives of eight Georgians -- mostly Asian women -- in three Atlanta area spas.

"When there are problems that threaten public safety, it is the solemn duty of public officeholders to faithfully seek solutions," Congresswoman Williams wrote in the letter. "Although Congress has moved forward at the federal level, it is time to take steps at the state level to ensure the safety of all Georgians."

In the letter, Congresswoman Williams called on Governor Kemp to take the following steps to improve gun safety:

Immediately convene a bipartisan working group of lawmakers that will recommend specific state-level legislative or executive action to safeguard communities against gun violence.
Provide a reply within 30 days with an outline of the proposals the working group considered and recommended, as well as how the proposals will be enacted.
