On Tuesday, April 20, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) voted to protect senior citizens from financial fraud and scammers by supporting H.R. 1565, the Senior Security Act. The Senior Security Act builds upon the Senior Safe Act and creates an interdivisional task force at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to examine and identify challenges facing senior investors. Congressman Gonzalez is an original cosponsor of the bipartisan Senior Security Act.

Within two years of enactment, the U.S. Government Accountability Office will study and report on the economic costs of the financial exploitation of senior citizens.

"In South Texas, we share the value of respect for our elders," said Congressman Gonzalez. "I'm proud to support legislation that equips us to identify better ways to help our senior citizens and for them to protect themselves from fraud and scammers. The Senior Security Act aims to defend our seniors from financial exploitation and prevent attacks from happening."

Congressman Gonzalez also spoke on the House floor in favor of the bipartisan legislation. The speech can be viewed here.
