Press Release

Date: March 30, 2021
Location: Bartow, FL

U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today recognized Michele Parmer, a teacher at Bartow Middle School, as the FL-17 MVP for March 2021 due to her dedication to educating students through their Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter.

"I am honored to recognize one of our district's most outstanding teachers today, Michele, for her leadership and commitment to educating the youth in our community," Steube said. "She has gone above and beyond her role as an educator through dedicating her time to the FFA program and getting our future generations involved in Florida's thriving agriculture industry."

Parmer has been recognized in the past as "Teacher of the Year" and has continued working to change student's lives, even during COVID-19. Through the FFA program, Parmer works to prepare students to earn certifications to help pay for college education and join careers in agriculture. Each year, Parmer leads students in growing vegetables such as collard greens and houses a farrow to finish hog operation with the FFA chapter.

The Bartow Middle FFA chapter was also named one of the finalists for the "Middle School Model of Excellence," which is an honor only awarded to the top FFA programs in the entire nation.

She is known not only for these accomplishments, but also for positive nature and unrelenting dedication to make a difference in her community. Even while the school term was cut short, Parmer continued growing and harvesting the crop fields and ensured they were dispersed around the community.

Parmer was this year's third recipient of Steube's FL-17 MVP Award. Each month, Steube and his team recognize an MVP from the 17th Congressional District who has made outstanding and unique contributions in the community. The purpose of this award is to recognize the unsung heroes across the District as they display extraordinary dedication to make a difference. To thank them for their work, MVPs are presented with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol and are publicly recognized in Steube's weekly newsletter.
