Grassley Praises Federal Investments In Ames, Sioux City To Provide Critical Infrastructure Updates And Fuel Economic Growth

Statement

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) praised the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) as they announced a $1.5 million grant to the city of Ames to provide critical water infrastructure for a new industrial park and a $1 million grant to the city of Sioux City to support growth in the aviation sector.

The EDA grant to Ames will be used to construct vital water infrastructure to allow for development and business growth at the Prairie View Industrial Center. This project will be matched with $3.8 million in local funds and is expected to generate $30 million in private investment.

"I'm glad that the Economic Development Administration has awarded the City of Ames a $1.5 million grant to construct critical water infrastructure at the Prairie View Industrial Center. This update will allow for continued development and business growth in the area. I look forward to seeing all the new projects as the community continues to expand," Grassley said.

The EDA grant to Sioux City will be used to build a hangar at the Sioux Gateway Airport to be leased by a new aviation school that would provide training in flight, mechanics, avionics and other certifications. This project will be matched with $4.5 million in local funds and is expected to create 30 jobs and generate $720,000 in private investment.

"I'm very happy Sioux City has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Economic Development Administration to build a hangar at the Sioux Gateway Airport and will ultimately be leased by an aviation school," Grassley said. "This brand-new space will create exciting opportunities for the Sioux City community as the aviation school will offer advanced training and certificates."

This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council, which EDA funds to help bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
